COMBAT! EASTERN FRONT by Compass Games
Meet the men who will have to survive the Eastern Front.
Before the first mission begins, I introduce my squad, explain the missing setup from Episode 1, and prepare for what might become a campaign rather than a single mission.
After trying Scenario 1 (Barbarossa) I realised just how unforgiving Combat! can be, so I've decided to do something different.
Instead of simply playing through the published scenarios, I'm going to let the random scenario generator create our missions.
Will it produce believable, challenging and, most importantly, fun battles?
Let's find out together.
A quick note: At around the 27-minute mark of the previous video, a section of the setup was accidentally missed because the camera wasn't recording. In this episode I explain exactly what should have been shown. Thanks to one of the channel members for spotting it!
One of the reasons I wanted to start this game and maybe make it a campaign is the random scenario generator. On paper it looks like one of the strongest features of Combat! Eastern Front. Rather than replay the published scenarios, I'm going to let the game build the missions and we'll discover together whether they create believable and enjoyable tactical battles.
I completed Scenario 1, Barbarossa, and... let's just say things didn't go to plan! Despite being labelled an introductory scenario, I found it surprisingly challenging.
Good game but tough as this was supposed to be an easy scenario. I looked through the remaining 10 scenarios and all were not easy.
Then I thought...wait a minute, why not try the random scenario generator and see what that comes up with. Its supposed to be one of the key strengths of the game system.
Therefore, I went through the steps of generating a scenario in episode 1, and will do this as my playthrough of the game. Lets see together if, straight out of the box it can create interesting, challenging and most of all FUN scenarios.
