EASTERN FRONT by Compass Games Turn 1 | Impulse 3 and 4 Not everything on the battlefield is what it seems... The battle continues, but finding the enemy proves to be just as difficult as fighting them. Both sides finally begin spotting opposing troops, yet the fog of war remains firmly in control. Of the five Soviet positions identified, three turn out to be dummies, making every decision that little bit more uncertain. While Soviet rifle fire cracks across the battlefield, my squad makes cautious advances, trying to close the distance without revealing too much. No casualties this time, but the tension is definitely building as both sides probe for weaknesses. In this episode More enemy units are spotted. Three Soviet positions are revealed to be decoys. My squad advances cautiously under cover. Soviet troops open fire, but fail to score any hits. The battle continues to build towards its first decisive engagement. One of the things I'm really enjoying about Combat! Eastern Front is how well it recreates the uncertainty of small-unit combat. Every spotted counter might be the real threat... or it might be nothing more than a clever deception. This campaign uses the Random Scenario Generator, so we're discovering together whether Combat! Eastern Front can create tense, believable and memorable World War II battles straight out of the box.
