Arkham Horror

2005Richard Launius, Kevin Wilson

The year is 1926, and it is the height of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers dance till dawn in smoke-filled speakeasies drinking alcohol supplied by rum runners and the mob. It's a celebration to end all celebrations in the aftermath of the war to end all wars. Yet a dark shadow grows in the city of Arkham. Alien entities known as Ancient Ones lurk in the emptiness beyond space and time, writhing at the gates between worlds. These gates have begun to open and must be closed before the Ancient Ones make our world their ruined domination. Only a handful of investigators stand against the Arkham Horror. Will they Prevail? Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game themed around H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Players choose from 16 Investigators and take to the streets of Arkham. Before the game, one of the eight Ancient Ones is chosen and it's up to the Investigators to prevent it from breaking into our world. During the course of the game, players will upgrade their characters by acquiring skills, allies, items, weapons, and spells. It's up to the players to clean out the streets of Arkham by fighting many different types of monsters, but their main goal is to close gates to other dimensions that are opening up around town. With too many gates open the Ancient One awakens and the players only have one last chance to save the world - defeat the Ancient One in combat!

Hell of a Deal

2026Cameron Reid

Hell of a Deal is a cooperative poker game against The Devil Himself & all the minions of Hell. Of course, they all cheat! To compete, you'll have to cheat like Hell... and the more you do, the more doomed you all become. Welcome to The Last Resort & Casino… and winning IS your last resort. To get to the Big Table, you'll face off against diabolical bosses like Dedly Aloor, Jack Potts, The Brothers Dreadful, & Roul-ette, each of whom twists the game in unique ways. It's real poker - as far as playing poker in Hell goes, with you all trying individually to beat the house. Every Boss changes how you will approach the hand and has a bare minimum hand to beat, should their dealt cards not pan out. It's a Texas Hold'em style game - and players get not two but three cards dealt to them (one up their sleeve for more options). You may earn powerful Favor cards that let you cheat, like making a four-card Flush, but at the cost of a Curse or suffering Temptation. Your chips will earn you Souls (the coin of the realm) which you'll need at the Big Table against The Devil Himself - or betting one of your five Power chips will gain you immediate abilities, like revealing one of the Boss's cards, or taking a face-up discard into your hand. But lose the hand and your wagered chips flip over to deliver harsh penalties. Suffer too much Temptation and the game ends in a loss. Manage to win against The Devil Himself and you might just earn your way back to the living. It has the feel of high stakes poker, with no cash on the table. And delivers a whole Poker Night in just 90 minutes. The retail edition of the game features 52 custom 11.5g poker chips and six neoprene play mats inside the box. The Community board mats alone fill a 28"x20" space at the center of the table making it feel like a full poker table. Hell of a Deal is made for board gamers who love poker - and even if you are relatively new to poker, its cooperative nature and in-game guides make it approachable enough for anyone to play. Poker is 100% skill and 50% luck. Being a good cheat helps too. Have a Lucky Day! -description from the publisher

Perennial

2027Emily Vincent

Perennial is a gorgeous new puzzly tile-laying game about planting a lush, diverse, and beautiful prairie garden! The game is played over four rounds, with two phases per round. Each round players will have two turns to gather tools, plants, and animals for their gardens by selecting a Tool Card and combination of Plant and/or Animal Tokens. After all players have collected tools, plants, and animals, they simultaneously plant their gardens. The tricky part of the game is that you can only gather and plant based on the shape and form of the tools you collect. Earn points by creating regions of the same type/color of plant, by matching animals to their favorite plants, and by adding idyllic ponds and features to your garden. Players must be clever in both drafting and placement to balance all of their objectives in making the most harmonious garden. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins! Perennial uses polyominos in a new way! On a turn, players draft tiles from the board in one shape (based on the polyomino shape depicted on the card they select for their supply). These square tiles are then disaggregated when placed in the play area. In the placement phase, any of the player's collected tiles may be reassembled and placed in their garden by using a card in their collection. Assemble your own polyominos into the right configurations to place your wildflowers, wildlife, and garden features to score the most points! -description from the publisher

Gunsen: The Battle for Toshi Ranbo

2026Matthew O'Malley, Ben Rosset

In Gunsen: The Battle for Toshi Ranbo, Rokugan teeters on the brink of upheaval as the Great Clans-the Crab, Crane, Dragon, Lion, Phoenix, Scorpion, and Unicorn-clash for control of the legendary fortress, Toshi Ranbo. Once a strategic gem on the borderlands, the castle now stands at the heart of a war-torn battlefield, its banners contested by rival warlords seeking glory and vengeance. The air hums with the tension of drawn steel and elemental magic, as ancient shrines smolder and village alliances shift like the wind. In this strategy game, players take on the role of ambitious daimyō representing one of the seven Great Clans: recruiting samurai heroes, drafting powerful orders, and building their clan's military might and strategic influence. Through tactical maneuvers and clever engine-building, they strive to fulfill seven victory objectives-from capturing and holding the coveted castle to completing secret missions and claiming sacred locations. Only one clan will write its legend in the blood-soaked chronicles of Toshi Ranbo. -description from the publisher

Spirit Train

2027Casey Mattes, Zoey Mattes

Spirit Train is played in 3 Cycles. Each Cycle consists of a series of rounds where players will determine what to do using a unique simultaneous action selection mechanic. Before the start of each day, conductors will select between a list of different rooms to fill their train with. These rooms will provide base actions depending on the shape/size of the room. How many rooms you use will affect the speed and energy level of your train, as well as turn order. When spirits are active on your train, they will provide you even more actions. The number of active spirits you can select will depend on the current mood of your spirits (spirits are more active when they're happy!). You can maximize the number of actions you use by strategically placing active spirits into rooms you've created specifically for them on your train. In summary; you will select your actions for the day based on how you build your train, which spirits are currently active on the train, and where, on your train, you place your active spirits. After conductors reveal their trains, they will go through the 5 phases of each day. During the first phase, players simultaneously collect tickets and memory shards, as well as adjust spirit moods as needed. In the movement phase, conductors take turns moving their train through different regions such as forests, meadows, cities, the sea, and mountains. They might pick up spirits waiting at train stops, or challenge other conductors to a train prank-war! In the third phase, players take turns interacting with the spirits on their train, keeping them happy and cozy. During the fourth phase, conductors may fuse together memory shards, spending them to awaken a spirit's core memory. They then place a Memora block on the spirit's card to enhance and expand the actions available to it. The Spirit Train will gain different amounts of energy depending on what kind of memory (Memora block) was unlocked. In the last phase of each day, players spend tickets to house spirits from their hand, or drop spirits off from their train, helping them cross over to the true afterlife. Spirits are most comfortable crossing over in a region they are most familiar with, whether that be the forest, the mountains, etc. so be aware of where your train is currently running through. A new Cycle begins once a conductor reaches the train station at the end of the map. Players will gain rewards based on how far they are on the map at that time, then reset to the top to start a new Cycle. Conductors can choose how fast or slow they want to move through the regions depending on which strategies they want to pursue. At the end of each Cycle, Death will appear in one of its many forms to lure a spirit away from your train. Conductors must work together to send Death away, or collectively suffer the consequences. The ultimate goal of Spirit Train is to gain points by accomplishing 3 main objectives; interacting with the spirits on your train, helping those spirits cross over, and collecting spirit stones. The amount of points you gain per objective will depend on the mood of your spirits at the end of the game. If they are generally sad, you'll earn less points than if you work to keep them happy and comfortable. The player with the most points earns the honor of taking over as the new, true conductor of the Spirit Train. -description from the publisher

The Adventure Store

2027Taylor Reiner

For generations, fighters have wandered through the doors of The Adventure Store searching for equipment to give them an edge in battle, from shimmering potions to “lightly cursed” armour on the sales rack. The shopkeeper has watched countless contestants rise and fall in the battle arena and, being the generous businessman he is, has decided to turn the whole affair into a spectator event. After all, if you're going to bludgeon each other senseless, someone should profit from ticket sales. Each round, you and your rivals enter the arena to face a Trial, a high-stakes trick-taking battle where every hand won earns crowns to spend back at The Adventure Store. Upgrade your combat deck with powerful equipment to refine your fighting style and master brute strength, cunning wisdom, or arcane magic. The shopkeeper, ever supportive of the underdog, has a soft spot for competitors willing to fight dirty. Fighters who fail to claim a single victory in the arena may still walk away with bonus store credit... and the satisfaction of stealing the crowd's admiration from the so-called champion. Glory awaits those bold enough to step into the arena. And for those less bold, tripping the competition and stacking the deck in your favour is always an option. -description from the publisher

Deckers

2025Richard Wilkins

In Deckers, you will hack into a network of five servers, either solo or co-operatively as a team of up to four, winning or losing together. The network is operated by one of the available super-massive computers (SMCs), each with a different level of complexity and its own unique style of defenses that you will need to overcome. Once jacked into the servers, you will assume decker profiles, each with a special ability, moving across the server's spaces and uploading decker pieces onto the network to expand your control while removing as many of the SMC's pieces as possible. Each round, you get a new objective you try to fulfill to gain the upper hand. If you manage to complete the final objective, you ultimately claim victory.

Chariot Lords

1999Charles Vasey

Between 1500 and 600 BC, Asia Minor and the Mediterranean witnessed the rise and fall of several mighty empires. Often the birth of one empire precipitated the death of another. How could a small people like the Judeans establish an empire when located between such giants as Egypt and Assyria? Why did some Empires endure for centuries while others lasted only a few generations? Chariot Lords shows you the how and why. Each Lord controls between 5 and 6 nations, some strong, others weak, each with varying goals and objectives - indeed some of these countries may not even exist at the same time. Players compete against one another to achieve the victory criteria for their empires. Nations quickly become rivals, involving them in death struggles over expansion. Each turn (90 years) will see new countries come to the fore, while established empires struggle to levy reinforcements and arrange alliances. A fine line must be walked between conserving one's forces and expanding one's empire. Too much expansion will see your resources spread thin and possibly swept away by a new emerging empire, but not enough aggression will see your empire fail to garner sufficient victory points to win. Armies are of a mix of foot and mounted units, along with the occasional leader of note. It is not enough to conquer -- you must be able to keep what you have taken. The winner will be the one who has the most victory points after all the armies have had their moment on the stage. It is up to you to determine whether your empire will be relegated to the dustbin of history, or whether others will hail you as...The Chariot Lord. Effervescent

2027Carla Kopp

Deep beneath the rolling waves, players take on the role of a colony of Effervescents - the tiny, shimmering beings who ride ocean bubbles in perfect symbiosis with the majestic wanderers of the sea. By navigating shifting undersea currents, players guide these larger creatures through the deep; in return, the marine animals carry the colonies toward new horizons. The goal is to cultivate pockets of harmony and successfully protect the community from the elements while balancing the expansion of the colony with the ever-changing rhythms of the ocean. Effervescent features an organic, grid-free tile-laying system where players have infinite freedom of placement. On a turn, a player must position a curved sea creature tile so that its tail touches the head of an existing creature on the table. Instead of packing pieces tightly edge-to-edge, this head-to-tail placement method creates spaces between the tiles. Players place their shimmering colony tokens onto the board by matching their tile placements to a row of three ever-evolving Drift cards. When tiles successfully surround a pocket of open water, an enclosure is formed. Anyone with tokens inside the sealed enclosure scores points based on shared communal Harmony cards. The game shifts dynamically each round as the oldest Drift card falls out of play and a new current condition is revealed. A race to trigger the end of the journey begins as players attempt to empty their habitat pools of fifteen Effervescents. Once the end-game is triggered, players take equal turns before moving to final scoring. Players then reveal a secret, hidden objective card and must remove any of their tokens from the board that fail to meet its criteria. Points are calculated for all surviving Effervescents, and the player who has fostered the happiest, most vibrant undersea sanctuary claims victory. -description from the publisher
