In the Board Game Fun Phase for the week of October 20, 2025 -- First we catch up on some Cthulhu Death May Die: Forbidden Reaches News! CMON has sold the Cthulhu Death May Die IP to Asmodee...but it's probably a good thing for backers. Then we take a look two crowdfunding campaigns and why I'm interested in them - (1) B.E.L.O.W.: The Asylum (https://gamefound.com/en/projects/awaken-realms/below-asylum?ref=project-advert-banner_below-asylum) Designed by Tomas Holek (S.E.T.I., Galileo Galilei, Tea Garden) and co-created with Michal Lach (lead developer on Nemesis Retaliation, Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin) and published by Awaken Realms. This cooperative survival horror game puts resource management and puzzling upfront -- you must complete the ritual and seal in the great evil through earning the seals before time runs out (or you die!). Fighting and strongarming the fiends is not going to work this time. Spread across two parallel dimensions, you've got to be sure to manage your shimmer level...or you might suddenly find yourself teleported to the other dimension and away from what you were trying to do. Or maybe that might just save your life. (2) Return to Dark Tower: Expeditions (expansion) (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/restorationgames/return-to-dark-tower-expeditions?ref=user_menu) The third expansion to Restoration Games' cooperative game of heroes versus the great evil within the dark tower, with a mechanical dark tower in the middle of the board whirring and dropping skulls on the board and taunting you throughout. In this expansion, in addition to 4 new heroes and 6 new gear options, there is an expedition board on which your party can journey and spend resources to try to earn valuable rewards...some of which you can place on the board as ongoing benefits, and some that are one time actions and others that are essentially treasures.
