Watch “Kirovograd & A Victory Awaits,” a gameplay video for Kirovograd from Nathan Wailes Gaming on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Nathan Wailes Gaming on YouTube:
I met up with another wargamer to play some wargames.
Thoughts on the experience:
- I should've read the entire Kirovograd rules before we played.
- I should've read the entire A Victory Awaits rules before we played.
- My opponent was a much more experienced wargamer than me and was more familiar with Kirovograd, and combined with not having read the entire rules and not being familiar with the games, I spent the sessions largely in decision paralysis before making kind of arbitrary decisions.
- I think if you're going to play against a serious gamer face-to-face, it may be a better idea if you have first played the game via a Vassal PBEM.
- I would say this meetup contrasted strongly with my previous face-to-face opponent, who was equally unfamiliar with the games we were playing and where the game session was more of us mutually trying to understand the rules and muddling through it. This felt like a more serious / competitive session, which is probably a much better experience if you're already familiar with the game. So you should probably try to get a sense of what your opponent is looking for before meeting up so you can prepare accordingly.
