This is a stand alone expansion, and adds a few new things to the game. What's New: The biggest thing is the inclusion of Jewelry in the game. You get Jewelry by going to the food option, and choosing to get Jewelry instead of food. It's the same dividing factor for it, every 2 points on the die is 1 jewelry. You use it by being on the jewelry track, and you need to put 2 workers on it to move up 2 levels. As such, once your on the track at all, you can choose to exchange the jewelry for any good you need. This exchange can ONLY happen when you are building a building, or purchasing a card, and has various costs for it. It starts at a 2 to 1 ratio, meaning 2 jewelry for 1 resource, goes up to 1 to 1, and finally is a 1 to 2 ratio. Again, this is ONLY for when you build or purchase something, and it does NOT go into your resources. The other really big thing is that the expansion gives a 5th player to the game. This is just another player board and another color, otherwise is the same as the core game. There are new huts, and new cards to purchase. The new huts give some unique traits, like giving a spot to harvest wood at a 2 to 1 ratio for ONLY you. The new cards add another green card for the multiplier, and a new dice reward. Honestly, the only reason you should pick this up overall, is for the 5th player. If you find yourself always having 5 people, it's nice to have this as an option, but otherwise it doesn't really add anything that changes the game for the better. You have to have people collect jewelry where the food is, so you kind of wasting your turn going for a resource that is really just a wild. It's nice when you roll massive on food and can get some when you were already there, but overall this is not that great of an expansion. Does make the game a little better with more options, but really is lackluster with new mechanics. Would give it a solid 7, and should only be picked up for the 5th player and if you love the game to begin with.
