The preparations are complete. Now the battle begins. In Episode 1 of our Austerlitz 1805: Rising Eagles series, I introduced the game, looked at some of the important rules and went through the victory conditions that will shape the decisions made by both sides. Now it's time to put those rules into practice. For Episode 2, I'm joined by Mark, who takes command of the Austrian forces, while I take command of Napoleon's French army. This is an opposed playthrough, played remotely using VASSAL, with Zoom providing our voice and video connection. From this point onwards, both commanders will be making their own plans, reacting to their opponent's moves and trying to find the opportunities that could decide the battle. Historically, Austerlitz became one of Napoleon's greatest triumphs — but we're not here to recreate history move for move. Mark has his own ideas for the Austrians, I have mine for the French, and once the first pieces begin to move, the battle can take a very different course. The game begins...
