Welcome to Austerlitz 1805: Rising Eagles from Hexasim, part of the Eagles of France series. Before the armies begin to move, we need to understand the battlefield and, more importantly, how the game works. In this opening episode, I introduce Austerlitz 1805: Rising Eagles and take a look at some of the key rules and systems we'll be using during the game. I also go through the victory conditions, giving us an idea of what both sides need to achieve and what will ultimately determine victory or defeat. This will be an opposed playthrough, played remotely using VASSAL, with Zoom providing the voice connection between the two players. My opponent joins me from Episode 2, when the playthrough begins in earnest and both sides start putting their plans into action. Austerlitz is remembered as one of Napoleon's greatest triumphs — but with two players making their own decisions, there is no guarantee that events will follow their historical course. Can Napoleon reproduce his extraordinary victory, or can the Allied army rewrite the outcome of December 1805?
