Watch “Poetic Elements 4: ROOT (marauder),” a board game entertainment video for Root: The Marauder Expansion from GIVEPAUSE hobby on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by GIVEPAUSE hobby on YouTube:
Welcome back to the original Spaceship Frost! In this episode, I reprise my Root poem that I submitted earlier this week, but I add on an extra coda for the information about the Kickstarter that we didn't know at the time of its writing.
If you're wondering why I shot this at such a bad hour, I do go over it in the video, but the 10-cent version was to celebrate the first day of the new expansion on Kickstarter as well as to give myself a break from long-distance night driving to get a Covid vaccine. You know, you're regular garden variety win-win.
This is a weekly challenge for myself, to use the medium of poetry to convey my love for board games... particularly the ones that require at least two humans to play (and in whichever style of poetry fits the bill for that game). I talk a LOT about solo games on this channel, but honestly, just like many of you, I'm really starved for get those multiplayer games off my shelves in the After Times, while meanwhile really enjoying the great two player experiences out there with my wife (when the kiddos allow for such indulgences).
Enjoy!

I made a faction flowchart,
With decisions to be made.
Is war the biggest thrill in life
In mountain, lake, or glade?
Are you a crafty craftsman,
Making tools to fill your shelf?
Do you yearn for group adventures
Or explore all by yourself?
When mistakes are made and down you fall
How deep are your frustrations?
Will you wheel and deal for piles of gold
Or follow higher machinations?
I made this faction flowchart
for those times it’s hard to pick.
The factions range in fluff and style
So I want the choice to stick
But I also made this flowchart
To help us to remember,
The time I sold dominance to moles
Or when so-and-so got dismembered
For Root’s a game of character
Of push and pull and grit
Of lucky rolls, of subtle ploys,
Of politics and wit
And when the rats and badgers
Come gallumphing to the table,
I’ll gladly revisit these lines and words
And add them, best I’m able.
MARAUDER CODA:
Hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, Keepers in Iron,
Hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, Lord of the Hundreds,
Hirelings, hirelings, Landmarks,
Hirelings, hirelings, Bots,
Hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, hirelings, Hirelings Box!
And in case you're interested in getting the soon-to-be-outdated flowchart, you can still head on over the BGG and download the same file I printed off for the inside of my box (and I'll still give out major props to Tom Teaches for the better icons):

ALSO, in case you’re really interested in my headspace with regards to Root... here’s me singing a spoof on a different Broadway musical for each of the current factions. I’ll have to update this, too!
