Welcome back to Winding the Gears, a sub-series of the newly-rebranded Automation Academy (previously ROOTbot Academy). In the Academy, I present deep dives into the automa that make our solo games possible, and Winding the Gears is focused primarily on works in progress. Prototype ROOTbots (official and fan-made), my own designs to solo-ify some of my favorite games, and with the Archetype Archive, a place for us solo heads to gather and share our creations. The Old King's Crown is currently being crowdfunded (link below) by Eerie Idol Games and includes a wonderful solo mode from the one and only Ricky Royal. The Simulacrum takes the hazy form of _almost_ a familiar foe, but uncannily not quite right... by implementing the tools presented in the box, the publisher created four different versions of the solo opponent to square off against. But not content to rest on the laurels of the fantastic design, they ensured that us solo-minded gamers have an unbounded playground to make whatever their hearts desire... so the Archive is my project to preemptively set the logistics for how we share those creations. As I was lucky enough to receive the second wave prototype of OKC (the one with the solo mode), unlike the way I handled the world of the ROOTbots, I decided to include EVERYthing in this video for two reasons: so potential backers can get an all-inclusive video all at once in order to better understand the systems currently in place to make their backing decision, but also due to the fact that some of these rules and maybe even components will surely change between now and production, so I can make more of an itemized video series once I receive my final game (cuz you better believe I'm a day one backer), once I know it's locked in.
