Watch “Night at the Zoo: Unicorns | Mini Expansion Explained,” a how-to-play guide for Night at the Zoo: Unicorn from Luzapalooza on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Luzapalooza on YouTube:
In this short video, I’ll show you how the Unicorns mini expansion works for Night at the Zoo.
I have no information on the availability of this mini expansion. It was available at the ALBI booth during Berlincon, I can only assume it will be available at the ALBI booth during Essen Spiel 2026.
The Unicorns add a little bit of player interaction and mischief to the game. They block spaces on your zoo board — but with the right bonus action, you can pick up your Unicorn and send it over to your neighbor!
Unicorn — Rules
Setup
2 and 3 players: The first player places a Unicorn on their zoo board.
4 players: The first and third players each place a Unicorn on their zoo board.
Rules:
When you discard a tile and have a Unicorn, you must place it on the zoo board of the player to your left. If that player already has a Unicorn, pass yours to the next player instead. No player can have two Unicorns at the same time.
Place the Unicorn either on an empty space (without a tile) or on a space with a tile in your opponent’s zoo.
The Unicorn cannot be placed on:
* a zoo entrance space
* an animal entrance space
* a space occupied by another animal
If you place the Unicorn on an empty space that grants an action, you may immediately perform that action.
You cannot perform an action from the darker spaces with special conditions.
You cannot receive an action from a space that already has a tile on it.
You may choose to either place the Unicorn and gain an action, or perform the special animal movement first. You must completely resolve one before performing the other.
Moving the Unicorn
The Unicorn can be moved using a standard movement action.
The Unicorn may move onto an empty space, but it may never enter the zoo or move onto an entrance space.
An animal and a Unicorn may never occupy the same space.
The Unicorn blocks the space it occupies, meaning no tile may be placed on that space.

This is a mini expansion, so you don’t need much extra to learn — but it adds a fun little way to interfere with the other players’ plans.
