Hello everyone! Welcome to Whose Turn Board Games! Today, I'll be showing you how to setup and play the board game Imperial Settlers.
First off, this game is an engine building game, and can be deceptively long! The box states it can be about 45-90 minutes, but in actuality it's close to 1 to 3 hours! Besides the time commitment, this is one of the better engine building games that are out there. I would highly advise trying this one out!
You choose one of four factions, and attempt to build the best "empire" while also razing the other players empires. You collect some resources, place some workers, draw cards, and attack! It has a very well rounded feel to it, however it can get to quickly be one sided if you're not drawing any decent cards to start out with.
A big advantage of the game is how the engine plays out. You can really get a massive empire built, and do multiple actions each turn. That being said, it's very susceptible to analysis paralysis and can get a little overwhelming at the later rounds.
One thing that does tend to make the game not great, is when you draw very poorly. You need resources to build your cards and create your empire, however when you start off with no production cards it can be very difficult to catch up. So keep that in mind, sometimes card draw is NOT in your favor.
Really hope you enjoy the game, and leave a comment below if you have tried it and what you favorite faction is. Mine is the Barbarians, but I really want to give the Egyptians a few more runs to give them a fair shot.
Thank you for watching!
