Hello board gamers! In this video I explain how to setup and play the board game Earth. This is a 1 to 5 player game, and although there is a solo variant, it is not covered in this video. As such, this game has alot of pieces in it, so let's get right into it!
First off, most of the cards and boards are double sided. This is to save space, at the expense of sanity for the first time opening the box. Once you realize what boards you will need, and which side, it's much easier to navigate and setup, but do note that it can be VERY confusing when first opening this box.
Once everything is separated, shuffle out the island, climate, and ecosystem cards to each player. You then randomly select which fauna cards to use, and which side. Players can choose which side to play with for their own cards, and can make this decision AFTER the fauna cards are showing.
Then take the number of cards based on your island card you chose, compost the number of cards required, and take your dirt.
I would highly recommend to just try things out your first few times through the game. There is no one route to play to win, as it ALL depends on the cards on the ecosystem you chose to play with, as well as the fauna cards that flip up. Likewise, you could draw through half the deck and NEVER come across the cards your looking for or need for your build. So be ready to be fluid in your choices!
The really nice thing about this game, is that you're always doing SOMETHING between your turns. Even if it's just the generic "other player" actions, it still gives you something.
One thing that was missed in the video, is that there is no max hand size. Likewise, there is no limit for the resources for the board, with the exception of the deck. Should the deck run out, then shuffle the discard pile. Should that pile run out, and there are no cards left, then no cards can be drawn. Good luck seeing that in any game that has less than 5 players......
And that's the game! Please let me know if there are any questions on the game in the comments below as well as if you enjoy the game, or anything you would change. Me personally, I wish that you could have some faceup cards to choose from as sometimes you just hit a rut and only draw events/terrain cards and you can't get anything going.
Thank you all for watching, and enjoy Earth!
