Watch “Arrival prototype gameplay with designer Phil Eklund (5 players), TTS,” a gameplay video for Arrival from Pizin on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Pizin on YouTube:
Gameplay of prototype of Arrival. Boardgame of arriving at a distant exoplanet, and terraforming, building societies and cities, and negotiations with the natives. By Phil Eklund, Paweł Garycki, Matthew Rozanski.
In the century long voyage, the tiny human crew of the starship Exodus have developed into “Goomans”, radiation-hardened by artificial Goo symbionts, and “Hikikomori”, atrophied humans who teleoperate robonauts. The shipbrain, composed of 6 AIs with competing ideas on knowledge, governance, and ecology, has braked the starship into orbit around an alien stellar system with two goldilocks planets of interest, the larger named Stor and the smaller named Liten. The AIs are divided on whether the crew's biology or the planet's ecology should be preserved, whether other intelligences are equals or threats to be subdued, and whether they should obey Sol or rebel against it. Meanwhile, the ground-penetrating radar sent by Exodus may accidentally betray her presence to an alien civilization dwelling in the extreme pressure oceans of Stor. These beings, called Sirens, have remained innocently unaware of the existence of the beyond with its stars and outer space. But now they find themselves in a space race with the far more advanced starfarers. One day, Sol will send a follow-up mission to Stor and Litten. Will they be welcomed to a new Eden, mutated into monsters, faced with a robot uprising, converted into drones, worshiped as gods, or blown out of the sky? Which paradigm will rule these strange new worlds?
Gameplay after some design reboot when players play as one of 6 AI.
