Enter the world of spies, secret agents, and hidden words! 🕵️♀️
Welcome to Codenames, the award-winning party game of clues and deduction designed by Vlaada Chvátil and published by Czech Games Edition (CGE).
It’s clever, social, and endlessly replayable — the ultimate team word game!
🎯 Codenames is a team-based word association game for 2–8+ players (best with 4+).
Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents on the table, and must guide their teammates to find them — using only one-word clues.
1️⃣ Setup:
- Lay out 25 word cards in a 5×5 grid.
- Draw a key card showing which words belong to each team (red or blue), which are neutral, and which is the deadly assassin.
- Each team chooses one spymaster (who sees the key) and field operatives (who guess).
2️⃣ On Your Turn:
- The spymaster gives one word and a number (e.g., “Ocean 2”) — hinting at two related words on the grid.
- Teammates discuss and guess one word at a time.
- If they pick their color → continue guessing.
- If they pick neutral → turn ends.
- If they pick opponent’s word → point to other team.
- If they pick assassin → instant loss!
3️⃣ Winning the Game:
The first team to find all their agents wins.
The team that starts first must uncover one extra word.
💡 Tips & Strategy
- Keep clues broad but not too obvious — balance risk and reward.
- Avoid clues that could point to the assassin!
- Link words with abstract ideas (e.g., “Nature 3” for “Leaf,” “Animal,” “Forest”).
- Great teamwork and communication always beat lucky guesses.
Codenames is one of the best-selling party games in the world — simple, social, and infinitely replayable.
Perfect for families, friends, and game nights everywhere! 🕵️♂️✨
