*EPISODE 52: Bayside Bidding* features a very undiscovered game from 2005 called Ostia: The Harbor of Rome. This is _not_ the same as the 2022 game simply called Ostia. In this interactive, old-school auction game, players are dealt a hand of 5 resource cards, but they only get to keep 1; the other 4 must be auctioned off. The bidding is once around the table with a closed economy where the buyers pay the auctioneer directly. The auctioneer doesn't even have to accept the highest bid! Then, players secretly assign their resource cards to the Forum for money, to the Senate for points, or to their storage area for more flexibility later in the game. There are lots of mind games where you're trying to outguess your opponents, and the entire game is a balancing act of needing more money to get more cards but also needing to translate those cards into points by the end. This is one of those "sneaky good" games that doesn't immediately reveal itself until you play a couple times!
.
*RULES CLARIFICATIONS:* If anyone has outstanding loans at the end of the game, they are not eligible to win! I forgot to mention that rule in the video. Also, your hand limit for storehouses only applies for carrying cards into the next round. During the round, you can put as many cards as you want into storage. Only in Step 5 do you need to discard down to your hand limit.
