Watch “ALIENS: Leading Edge Games 1989 | OPERATIONS Play Thru,” a gameplay video for Aliens from SharedXP on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by SharedXP on YouTube:
I'm heading back to LV-426 with the classic 1989 Leading Edge Games Aliens board game, playing through the Operations scenario using the original-style poster map and cardboard chits.
This is an earlier playthrough from a few months back, and I was still learning the Operations scenario at the time. Since then, I’ve had a lot more plays under my belt, and I’ll be redoing these scenarios with a full 3D model setup in future videos. But this session still captures exactly what makes this old game so tense, strange, cinematic, and worth remembering.
In Operations, we see Burke weasel his way back to Medical, while the Colonial Marines try to hold the line and follow the familiar beats of the movie — at least until things start going sideways. The squad pushes through the chaos, the aliens close in, and the big question becomes:
Will they even make it to the Air Ducts?
This is part of my ongoing look at older, forgotten, out-of-print, and underrepresented board games — especially games that still have a ton of atmosphere and table presence decades later.
If you love Aliens, retro board games, tactical survival games, movie board games, or just want to see how this 1989 design holds up today, this one is for you.
