Watch “ALIENS: Leading Edge Games 1989 | Air Duct Play Thru,” a gameplay video for Aliens from SharedXP on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by SharedXP on YouTube:
The nightmare continues in the classic 1989 Leading Edge Games Aliens board game.
After the chaos of Operations, the survivors are barely holding together. Ripley has been incapacitated and is being carried by Hicks. Burke has finally met his fate and has been dragged away to the Hive. Hudson is gone too, taken by the aliens. Vasquez cut through xenomorphs in Operations with her machine gun, while Gorman has somehow managed to be both heroic and completely in the way.
Now Newt has pointed the survivors toward the Air Ducts.
But the aliens are flooding Operations, the squad is running out of room, and the next scenario brings new problems, new rules questions, and a very different kind of tension. This is no longer just about fighting. It is about movement, survival, bottlenecks, panic, and whether anyone can actually make it out.
This playthrough uses the 1989 poster map and chits from Aliens: This Time It’s War. It was recorded before my later 3D model rebuilds and before I had played the scenarios many more times, so this is still part of my learning journey with the game. I’ll be revisiting these scenarios again with a full 3D setup, but I wanted to share this version because the original map and chits still create a surprisingly tense, cinematic experience.
If you love Aliens, retro board games, old tactical movie games, out-of-print designs, or forgotten games that still deserve a place on the table, this one is for you.
Will Hicks get Ripley out?
Can Vasquez keep the aliens back?
Will Gorman help or get in the way?
And once they enter the Air Ducts, who actually survives?
This is part of my ongoing look at older, strange, cinematic, and underrepresented board games — the kind of games that may be out of print, but are definitely not dead.
