The Serpent Game, also called Fighting Serpents, is a traditional game of the Zuni and other tribes in the southwest USA.
NOTE: There was a mistake in this video! At 03:15 you will see a jump in the animation. I said "No chain jumping" when I first posted this, BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE. "If a peg can be jumped, it must be jumped" applies! I have edited that section out. Sorry for the confusion.
This game was recorded by the invading Spanish explorers in the 1600s. It's akin to Alquerques, which leads some to speculate that it was developed from games the Spanish brought with them. A great little jump and capture game, it's larger cousins can have as much as 24 pegs per player! These larger versions are called "awithlaknannai" which means "stone that kills."
