Watch “Slay The Spire | TBG | Deckbuilding, Loot, Mayhem.,” a gameplay video for Slay the Spire: The Board Game from Dicing With Death on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Dicing With Death on YouTube:
With downfall being announced on kickstarter we decided to finally grab a copy of Slay the spire the boardgame to see what all the fuss was about…
Upon opening and going through the setup it immediately required us to sleeve the cards, an activity we would normally avoid on the grounds that life is short and plastic is forever. Here, though, it felt less like a choice and more like a basic emergency procedure. So we sat there for several minutes entombing cardboard in tiny transparent coffins and, disturbingly, rather enjoyed ourselves.
Then we played it.
And what emerged was a genuinely impressive experience , what we have here is a board game adaptation that doesn’t just drag the corpse of the video game onto the table and hope for the best, but actually captures its rhythm, its momentum, and its little bursts of triumph. Deck-building feels sharp, loot matters, potions are delightful, and every fresh combo arrives with the warm glow of discovering a new and efficient form of violence.
There’s a real pleasure in carving through the bizarre population of the Spire together, swatting aside its strange and frequently upsetting inhabitants with increasingly rude efficiency. It works brilliantly as a co-op game, and more importantly, it works in a way that makes you instantly want another go.
On top of this , it has that rare quality we’re always hoping for: it feels like it’ll be fantastic on a livestream. So yes, this one has absolutely earned its place on the table, and it’ll be back out again very soon.
