Scholars of the South Tigris — Overview & Review | Board Games With Rob
Today on the channel, I’m diving deep into Scholars of the South Tigris, published by Garphill Games (and distributed in the US by Renegade Games), designed by the brilliant duo Shem Phillips & SJ Macdonald. This is the second title in the South Tigris trilogy and—true to Garphill form—it’s a heavy, thinky Euro filled with bag-building, action selection, and multi-track advancement that hits that crunchy sweet spot.
Set during the height of the Abbasid Caliphate (circa 830 AD), Scholars puts you in the role of translating scrolls, hiring linguists, advancing research, and navigating a dense web of interlocking systems. In this video, I give a high-level overview to help you understand how the game flows, and then I shift gears and dive into my full review—including a first-ever moment on my channel tied to this game. (You’ll have to watch to find out!)
If you’ve been curious about whether this heavyweight euro belongs on your table, this video has you covered.
