Finspan Board Game Playthrough — with the Sharks and Reefs expansion. Four players, a whole lot of ugly deep-sea fish, and one very generous coral economy. Finspan is the underwater entry in the "span" family — you're building a board of fish across four depth zones, laying eggs, hatching young, forming schools, and diving for cards. The Sharks and Reefs expansion adds coral tokens, dive-site coral requirements, and free-to-play fish, which makes the whole thing more interconnected without ever getting mean. That's why we filed this one under Cozy: almost every powerful card in the deck gives everyone something. Andy, Jackson, Greg, and Scotty take it on, with Scotty playing Finspan for the very first time. Jackson opens by doing what you do — playing a fish — and basically never stops. Greg quietly turns "everyone gets an egg" and "all players place a coral" into a full-blown coral trade economy, which Andy spends the back half of the game trying to negotiate his way into. Highlights include the Goblin Shark that looks exactly like the Green Goblin's mask, a Faceless Cusk that genuinely has no face, a basking shark that devours an entire school in one bite, a Great Barracuda that reverses turn order at the worst possible moment, and Scotty hatching eggs for the first time roughly an hour into the session. It finishes as a twelve-point spread across all four boards, which is about as tight as this game gets. This is Roll to One Gaming Season 2, and Season 2 comes with a new scoreboard. Every game we play gets rated by the table and goes up on the Season Board — Finspan is the first one on there, so it starts at the top by default.
