E. Lapham Peabody waddled outside the Historical Society thankful that Mrs Peabody had made him wear his long johns, an extra vest, plaid work shirt, a thick sweater, heavy wool suit, overcoat, an old balaclava, a scarf and gloves earlier that morning. He only had two blocks to walk, and his boots were good and sturdy. The wind was howling and the ‘snow’ consisted of large sharp ice crystals screeching into him horizontally courtesy of this northern gale. He had taken off his glasses and put them deep within his layers of clothing as he knew it would be impossible to see out of them in this appalling weather. His unaided eyes whilst not the best were still good enough to see the clouds rolling in – dark obsidian-coloured thunderheads that looked like black ink dropped into a boiling slate grey pool. Peabody shuddered with a sudden dread. Something wasn’t right. Something hadn’t been right for a week now. He looked around suddenly, frightened and desperate. Nothing but the howling wind and the approaching storm. He shut and locked the Society’s large oak door and carefully descended the stone steps to the icy sidewalk. He wanted nothing more than to get home. He knew one thing for sure - that he had absolutely no intention of coming to work tomorrow. It was then he noticed a small glow away west under the clouds. He raised his gloved hand and placed it on his chest over the place his crucifix lay under his tightly swathed winter clothes…

About Arkham Horror, from BoardGameGeek:
The year is 1926, and it is the height of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers dance till dawn in smoke-filled speakeasies drinking alcohol supplied by rum runners and the mob. It's a celebration to end all celebrations in the aftermath of the war to end all wars.
Yet a dark shadow grows in the city of Arkham. Alien entities known as Ancient Ones lurk in the emptiness beyond space and time, writhing at the gates between worlds. These gates have begun to open and must be closed before the Ancient Ones make our world their ruined domination.
Only a handful of investigators stand against the Arkham Horror. Will they Prevail?
Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game themed around H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Players choose from 16 Investigators and take to the streets of Arkham. Before the game, one of the eight Ancient Ones is chosen and it's up to the Investigators to prevent it from breaking into our world. During the course of the game, players will upgrade their characters by acquiring skills, allies, items, weapons, and spells. It's up to the players to clean out the streets of Arkham by fighting many different types of monsters, but their main goal is to close gates to other dimensions that are opening up around town. With too many gates open the Ancient One awakens and the players only have one last chance to save the world - defeat the Ancient One in combat!
