Joe found her huddled in the call booth at the intersection of Whateley and Jermyn just by the river ferry. She was shivering, clutching at her purse and hugging a battered manila folder as if it would keep her warm. Joe had taken off his coat and made her wear it. “You need it more than I do, Red,” he’d said. “Here take a shot of this…” Diamond unstopped his hip flask. As she took a sip he gestured at the folder. “Now why don’t you tell me just what’s going on? Are those the pictures you called me about?”
Ten minutes later they stood in the meagre shelter offered by the doorway of the Akeley Trading Company. Mandy had recovered a bit of bounce. She was a tough dame. “…Carolyn er Miss Fern was going to Independence Square looking into what I’d told her about the glyphs on the Founders Stone while Mr Simmons was headed to that old shop in Northside full of esoterica checking some leads. I’d said that I’d pop by Carolyn’s patient’s old house here on my way back to the campus. I had to leave in a hurry when the roof started to fall in but whomever had been hiding out there was tailing you. Watch your back…”
“Too late, angel. Them no good mugs slugged me real good yesterday outside the museum in Providence. They lifted a statue I had just picked up to deliver to Sanford and his goons at the lodge. It’s okay. My head’s made of mahogany and we don't need worry about them mugs no more. They’re laid out on a cold metal table at the city morgue. I found their car upside down in a ditch just outside town this morning. Now that’s a whole heap of information you’ve just told me. You folks have done a good job so far. But just you all be careful. Anything dangerous you hold fire and let me know. I’m gonna head up that creepy house you just ran out of. Could be there are more clues up there. Don’t worry. I’ll watch myself. I could also do with scoping out the Lodge a bit more. I’ve a hunch that Miss Fern’s croaked patient was a Lodge member. Heard tell that a few folks there end up going cuckoo. Shame they know me now. Sanford’s a suspicious jasper plus he’ll be badgering me about his statue…” Joe rubbed absently at his temple.
Mandy had nodded. “Here take this. It was my grandmother’s. For luck.” Joe had stared at the little red stone on a keyring chain. “Doesn’t mean we’re engaged or anything. And I want it back. Guess I spent years scoffing at her claims about it being lucky. Well after today let’s just say I’m a convert.”
“Sure, Red,” he had said laughing and put it in his pocket. “You head on back. Get warmed up. I’ll be in touch.”
Mandy watched him go. No way she was going back to the campus. She hurried to the ferry. Time to visit this Silver Twilight Lodge…

About Arkham Horror, from BoardGameGeek:
The year is 1926, and it is the height of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers dance till dawn in smoke-filled speakeasies drinking alcohol supplied by rum runners and the mob. It's a celebration to end all celebrations in the aftermath of the war to end all wars.
Yet a dark shadow grows in the city of Arkham. Alien entities known as Ancient Ones lurk in the emptiness beyond space and time, writhing at the gates between worlds. These gates have begun to open and must be closed before the Ancient Ones make our world their ruined domination.
Only a handful of investigators stand against the Arkham Horror. Will they Prevail?
Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game themed around H.P Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Players choose from 16 Investigators and take to the streets of Arkham. Before the game, one of the eight Ancient Ones is chosen and it's up to the Investigators to prevent it from breaking into our world. During the course of the game, players will upgrade their characters by acquiring skills, allies, items, weapons, and spells. It's up to the players to clean out the streets of Arkham by fighting many different types of monsters, but their main goal is to close gates to other dimensions that are opening up around town. With too many gates open the Ancient One awakens and the players only have one last chance to save the world - defeat the Ancient One in combat!
