RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first to reduce your opponent’s authority to 0. Give each player two authority trackers, oriented to show their remaining authority, which begins the game at 50. Give each player 8 scouts and 2 vipers which they shuffle into a personal deck. Set the explorer cards faceup to the side, then shuffle the remaining cards into a draw deck. Flip over the top 5 cards to create the trade row.
Pick a player to go first, then turns alternate. The first player draws 3 cards, while the second draws 5. On your turn, you may play any number of cards. All cards not played will be discarded at the end of your turn. When you play a card follow its effect. The coin symbol is called “trade” and is the currency. For each trade a card gives you, that amount is added to an imaginary pool in front of you that lasts for the remainder of the turn.
You can use your trade to purchase cards from the trade row. Deduct the cost of the card, as seen by the large trade icon, from your pool; then take that card and put it into your discard pile. Whenever a spot in the trade row becomes available, flip over the top card from the deck to fill it.
There are 2 types of cards: ships and bases. When you play a ship, at the moment of playing it, its top, primary ability on activates. Below the primary ability is the ally ability. While there is another ship or base in play with that faction’s icon, then you may choose to activate this ability one time on your turn, whenever you want. At the end of your turn, discard all of your ships that are in play.
The combat icon is used to attack. When activated, it adds that number of combat to an invisible pool in front of you until the end of the turn. Any time during your turn you may use your combat to attack your opponent to reduce their authority, or to attack their bases.
Bases are horizontal and do not discard at the end of your turn. Their primary ability is activated when you decide, not when it goes into play. In the bottom corner is a shield indicating that bases’ defense. Your opponent may attack your bases with combat. If they have enough to defeat the base, then the base goes to your discard pile. If not, then no damage is done to them; it is either all or nothing. Silver shields are optional, you can either attack the player or a base with a silver shield. Black outpost shields are not optional. While a player has an outpost in play, you must attack that before you can target another base or the player.
To scrap a card means to put remove it from the game and put it into a trash next to the deck. The trash can icon means if you “scrap” this card, then you can perform that scrap ability. Whenever an explorer is scrapped, it goes back to the explorer deck.
At the end of your turn, discard all the cards in your hand and all your ships that are in play, then draw back up to five cards. When you draw deck runs out of cards and you need to draw, then shuffle your discard into a new draw deck. The first player to reduce their opponent’s authority to zero, wins!
