In Chartagon: Discoveries, players lead expeditions across the mysterious Chartagon archipelago, gradually expanding their presence by establishing ranger posts and founding research stations. As new discoveries become available over time, players compete to claim valuable knowledge while blocking each other's routes across forests, mountains, waterways, and open plains. Each turn, players place a single marker to expand their network or establish a research station. Research stations require surrounding support from nearby posts and reward players with discovery cards, opportunity cards, or both. The growing card display creates shifting priorities throughout the game, forcing players to decide whether to race for current discoveries, secure territory for future research, or interfere with their opponents' plans. Periodic storms reshape the landscape by removing frontier posts while introducing new scoring opportunities. When the exploration deck is exhausted, winter ends the expedition and each player takes one final turn. Players then total the points from their collected discoveries, opportunities, and other scoring cards. The explorer with the highest score has documented the greatest knowledge of Chartagon and wins the game. -description from the publisher
