Speculators is one of the 8 games in Dr. Finn's Book of Two-Player Strategy and Word Games. The game consists of one game sheet and requires no other components -- just a pencil for each player. Speculators is a game about dividing opportunities and choosing wisely. Over six rounds, players take turns acting as the “Manager.” Each round, the Manager selects a box of 10 currency-related icons and divides it into two groups. The other player chooses one group, and both players gain the icons in their respective piles. Currency icons increase a player's influence in one of four currencies (dollar, yen, pound, euro), point icons immediately score based on current influence levels, and arrow icons raise the market value of specific currencies-making those tracks more valuable at game end. Players must carefully balance short-term gains with long-term strategy. Influence tracks and currency values can never exceed 10, so timing matters. The pencil icon determines who will be Manager next round, adding another layer of planning. At the start of the game, each player secretly selects two “bonus” currencies that will increase at the end of the game, potentially swinging the final score. -description from the designer
