Time Travel Tacta
A Solo Variant for 1 Player
Created by Jason Tremblay
Objective:
Outwit your future self. Your goal is to finish with more visible dots for your chosen color than the opposing color. But beware—every card you play has a twin in the future that must follow in its footsteps.
Components:
36 Tacta cards: 18 from one color, 18 from another
1 starting X card
Setup:
Choose two different Tacta colors and combine 18 cards from each into a single deck (36 total).
Shuffle thoroughly, ensuring one color is on one side of the deck and the other on the opposite side.
Place the X starting card in the center of the play area.
How to Play
1. Choose Your Color
The first card you place determines your color for the game. This is the color that will score points. The opposite color is your "rival" and will subtract points from your score.
2. Play One Card at a Time
Choose either the top or bottom card of the deck.
Place it following standard Tacta rules: cover one matching shape, and only that shape, on a card already in play.
3. Time Travel Rule
Every card in the deck has a twin: a card with the same suit and number in the opposite color.
When you place a card, make note of its position and orientation.
When its twin appears later in the game, you must place it directly on top of the original, in the same orientation.
The second card may overlap additional cards that have been played on the first twin.
4. If You Miss a Twin:
If you accidentally place a twin in the wrong location, don’t correct it mid-game. Wait until all cards are placed, then remove the non-scoring twin and place it on top of its matching scoring twin to complete the stack.
End of the Game:
Once all 36 cards have been placed:
Correct any mismatched twins by stacking them as described above.
Count the visible dots on cards of your chosen color.
Subtract the visible dots on cards of the opposing color.
If the total is positive, you win!
Scoring Titles:
Challenge yourself to beat your high score and climb the time-travel ranks:
0+ points – FTL Survivor
10+ points – Rift Scout
20+ points – Time Trooper
30+ points – Paradox Commander
40+ points – Admiral Chronos
Tips:
Think several moves ahead. Every card you place in the present creates a mandatory move in the future, but the sequence of moves is up to you.
