Welcome to Kovray! We're a couple who adores board games and seeks to share our joy and passion with you. Today, we’re helping announce Tideward, a game about hatching sea turtles and guiding them safely to the Algal Mat. Tideward is designed by Connie Vogelmann, illustrated by the Pilot Agency, and published by Avalon Hill, who helped sponsor this video. In Tideward, you’re guiding newly hatched sea turtles from the beaches of Tortuguero, Costa Rica, through the changing tide and into the safety of the Algal Mat. On your turn, you’ll spend three actions to hatch eggs, move your turtles, or collect food, which can help you hatch new turtles or move them even farther. Getting safely to the water isn’t always easy, though, as turtles generally move in straight lines, other turtles and eggs can block their path, and dangerous crab spaces can put your hatchlings at risk. At the end of each round, the Tide Board rotates 90 degrees, carrying turtles along with it while those still on the beach automatically move closer to the water. Eventually, your turtles will reach the Algal Mat, where their positioning becomes a major part of your score. With four different Algal Mats changing how you score from game to game, plus a secret Tide Quest giving you your own personal objective, you’ll need to carefully navigate the beach, use the changing tide to your advantage, and get as many of your turtles to safety as possible.
