Watch “Sub Terra: timelapse of our first game,” a gameplay video for Sub Terra from Pedro Sousa e Silva on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Pedro Sousa e Silva on YouTube:
Yesterday we tried playing Sub Terra.
I didn't have much of an expectation since I'm not that much into cooperative games because of the alpha-player effect (mea culpa). To my surprise, however, we had a lot of fun!
Exploration was seemingly under control until the horrors took up the only corridor connecting the two groups of explorers, leaving us to realise that one of the groups wouldn't manage to backtrack once the other found the exit.
We came up with a plan to send the diver to lure them away and then dive into a water pool to "teleport" back to the group, but things got out of hand when he fainted with a tremor. Next we decided the bodyguard might have a chance of connecting back with the main area through a tunnel he was exploring and then fight the horrors, but the also fainted before completing his task.
With the geologist and climber managing to lure the horrors into a loop then dashing back out as the rest of the team came to help the fallen members, things seemed to look better; but then a series of unfortunate cave-ins fell right in the path of the runners, and they didn't make it back.
Meanwhile with the lights already out, the rest of the team supported each other (sharing healing actions and a lot of luck in the flashlight test), in a desperate dash to get to the exit.
The final moments were really tense as the leader wanted to get back in and grab the fallen, leaving no man behind, but the other members finally managed to bring her some sense, and those 4 of 6 initial cavers just left, forever scarred by the experience.
