Zombies!!! is a competitive (you read that right- competitive) variable board zombie escape simulator in which 2-6 players take on the role of a human survivor fighting for survival in the ubiquitous zombie apocalypse.
Each turn consists of the same core actions- Roll to move, fight, roll for zombies, fight. Place a tile. There's very minimal progression or variability in the actual gameplay once you get past the initial cuteness of the theme and the simplicity of the single dice single roll gameplay mechanics.
While players can and will draw cards that do somewhat modify gameplay, little incentive exists to not just attack zombies and betray your fellow survivors by buffing their zombies. This leads to a stagnation of gameplay that wears old quickly.
While the Zombie theme is tried and true material ripe for creative and unique twists, the game does little in the way of exposition to explain why players would not cooperate in the near death scenario, creating an unsatisfying feeling from the get go. Add in the variable win conditions in which players can somehow win by killing 25 zombies despite not escaping the zombie infested city, and the lack of commitment or understanding of the joys and troped we keep coming back to this genre for are missing.
We can't recommend this one unless you're really into zombies, trying to get your friends eaten by zombies, and the repeatability and rng of single dice roll gameplay with nonexistent strategy and major missed thematic opportunities.
