This is a recorded livestream of David teaching and playing through the roll-and-write game Railroad Ink, by Hjalmar Hach and Lorenzo Silva - and you can play along as well! (Instructions below, and in video.)
Railroad Ink sees you creating highways and railroads across a 7x7 grid, aiming to link the most exits on the sides of the board, create long routes, fill in the centre grid, and try to avoid leaving dead ends. The expansions for the Deep Blue edition add a third route, the river, or the option of a big lake that features piers to further connect routes. The Blazing Red edition allows you to run your routes by lava lakes that block or even destroy your paths, or to work while comets smash into your terrain, breaking chains but containing rich resources.
A single box of the game plays 1-6 people, but it is effectively infinitely scalable, as long as people can see the dice. If you don't already have the game, why not draw out a 7x7 grid and play along with me? The 2nd, 4th and 6th squares on each side just need an arrow pointing away, alternating road and rail for each, and the central nine squares are highlighted. You'll see the pattern early on in the video.
During this stream, I play the game five times. In order, I play the base game, the river expansion, the lake expansion, the volcano expansion and the comet expansion. You can play along with any or all of these games.
Please do leave a comment to let me know what you think, and I would love it if you would follow me on Twitch (www.twitch.tv/onceuponadie) and subscribe to my podcast (search Once Upon a Die on your preferred podcast provider).
While the podcast was the initial focus, and is going to be coming back to life soon, the fact that I cannot easily bring actors to a recording studio right now has encouraged me to speed up my livestream plans, and therefore I am working on the Twitch channel sooner than expected. Any feedback greatly appreciated, and I hope to see you on the channel some time soon.
