a note from the designer. =)
It is an honor to see Unterseeboot featured on your channel. Merci beaucoup.
And a shout out to Mike Haught and Scary Biscuits for the rule book design and example graphics.
A few rules clarifications for the viewers:
02:33 - Note: firing two torpedoes is an optional feature of the Type VII-C U-boat with a compliment of 14 torpedoes; the base game Type VII-A has a complement of 7 torpedoes and can fire only one per turn.
03:12 - In the updated 2020 rules, a “1” is a False Contact and cannot be fired upon. Any “1” die is simply removed from play.
03:50 - Must descend to 200m and survive the Destroyer depth charge in order to break contact. If you only descend to 150m, the Destroyer will continue to hunt you down even if they miss a shot.
04:59 - At 150m a depth charge hits on a 5+, so a “4” is a miss.
06:00 - you would roll for Aircraft spotting and since still detected by the destroyer, it will fire upon you with deck guns.
06:07 - you cannot identify a target nor shoot at a target from another surface location; you can only identify a target and shoot at a target if you are directly below the target at Periscope Depth or in the same surface space as the target.
06:22 - Aircraft & Destroyers will spot/detect the sub on a roll of 1-3, so your U-Boat has been detected by aircraft. To hit a sub on the surface is 3+
07:54 - Yes you do want to go deeper to 200m in order to break contact with the destroyer. You cannot Return-to-Base while still detected by the destroyer. And even after surfacing you will need to survive one more aircraft spotting and possible attack.
There are other optional rules like larger targets, up to 20,000 tons, and a ten-patrol campaign game. I have plans for updating and expanding the game even further.
Thanks again for renewing attention to this
little gem. I really enjoyed your video. Hopefully it will encourage folks to take a closer look — free download.
