This game features players "buying" countries based on where their pawns land on a Monopoly-style board - countries aren't "bought" but are invested in, and it is always an option. An Event book describes various world events that either help or hinder the "owners'" permanent or temporary syndicates. You fall in and out of alliances all throughout the game.
