Watch “Meadow + Meadow: Downstream First Play Impressions - Game Review,” a board game review for Meadow from Ronald aka The BoardGameBruh on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Ronald aka The BoardGameBruh on YouTube:
Played Meadow with the Meadow: Downstream expansion today and damn, it feels like a nature walk that makes you think without making your brain ache, with that calm yet curious vibe I didn’t expect; the base game’s set drafting still flows smoothly and the art keeps pulling your eyes back in on every card. Adding Downstream gives you this laid-back river route that doesn’t change the core too much but gives you little choices that feel meaningful without wrecking the original groove, which was smart design. I didn’t follow a million guides before jumping in — just dove straight into drafting meadow cards, then kept one eye on that river track because it does matter even if it doesn’t slap you in the face with rules. Setup takes up some table real estate once you include the river board, so if your play space is tight, you’ll want to clear a little room first. The theme stays chill and grounded the whole way, like you’re out hiking and then decide to dip a kayak in a stream just for kicks, which was pretty cool. It didn’t hit like the craziest strategy-heavy game ever, but the decisions matter, and every turn still feels fresh, especially when a river card gives you just what you need. If you like thoughtful, naturey drafting games that reward attention more than muscle memory, this won me over on first go. Big shoutout to @AsmodeeGamesUSA for sending this over to review — always appreciated when publishers trust creators to give an honest take. @rebelstudiogames absolutely snapped with Meadow, because the artwork, pacing, and overall feel show real care and vision from top to bottom. This is the kind of game that reminds you why thoughtful design and atmosphere still matter in tabletop.
