"In 2028, we discovered data encoded in a small part of genetic code shared by all life on Earth and inherited from our Last Universal Common Ancestor. Every cell on our planet contained a starmap, pointing to a location within our arm of the galaxy. It took another generation and the largest construction project in human history to create ISS Vanguard – our first ship capable of interstellar travel, based on the core of alien wreckage, found deep in Siberia. Carrying the best crew and the most advanced technology Earth could muster, Vanguard reached the destination marked on the starmap. There, it discovered a dying red giant, encased in a millennia-old Dyson sphere our crew called the Eye of the Void. Soon after our arrival, the Eye began to talk. It emitted a patchwork of old Earth’s transmissions, glued together into a peculiar message that urged us to go fast and claim our legacy, though it wasn’t clear what this legacy is or where to look for. It also provided us with a long list of coordinates to nearby star systems that included Earth. We could not return home with nothing but questions. The message seemed too urgent, too tantalizing. Right now, we approach the first of the systems on the list we received in the Eye. Now, looking at our first Landing crew preparing for Vanguard’s first landing mission, I’d like to think we’re prepared for everything. Instead, I can’t shake the ominous feeling that afraid we only touched on the secrets our galaxy has in store." - Cpt.
