About Home Team Heroes: The Football Card Game, from BoardGameGeek:
2024: "Soft-launch" featured first version of the game in Finnish language, for Finnish market.
2025: "Home Team Heroes: Season 1" Launched internationally with further developed game, in English language.
Finally, a football card game that actually plays like modern football.
Forget everything you know about sports card games. Home Team Heroes isn't another luck-driven simulator where higher numbers win. This is a tactical knife fight where every card placement matters, where tactical genius or good luck feel deserved, and where that perfect counter-attack you've been setting up actually mirrors the beautiful game's flow.
Decisions That Bite Back
Your hand management creates genuinely painful choices. That player could score now, but holding them back might prevent your opponent's counter. Event Cards are tactical tools: deploy a tactical foul to neutralise their star player, or save it knowing they're building towards something bigger? The Referee Card system adds Offsides and VAR-checks, just enough controlled chaos without destroying strategic planning.
Why Veterans Keep Coming Back
Every match tells a different story. High-octane shootouts or defensive masterclasses where 0-0 feels like victory. Those moments where your perfectly timed Referee Card dismantles their strategy. The game respects your intelligence whilst delivering genuine surprises.
The Gegenpress Isn't Just Flavour Text
Here's what's really addictive: when you're attacking and your Total Defence Power exceeds your opponent's, you trigger Gegenpress (it's a famous football strategy "after losing possession, winning the ball straight away for your team"), allowing consecutive attacks. Suddenly you're not just playing cards; you're implementing Klopp-style high pressing tactics.
Feels Like Real Football
Home Team Heroes makes you think like a manager, react like a player, and celebrate like a fan. For groups seeking competitive depth without three-hour sessions, for players who want meaningful decisions without analysis paralysis, this delivers. It's the tactical football game we didn't know we needed, wrapped in 30-minute matches that demand "just one more match". Attack, defend, counterattack, gegenpress, take advantage of tactical substitutions that would make Guardiola proud, you're not just playing a card game. You're playing football.
