Guadalcanal - The Battle for Henderson Field (Valiant Defense #5) -- Contents Overview Part 1. Guadalcanal (DVG) is a solitaire wargame designed by Vince Cooper, depicting the Japanese attack on Henderson Field between October 23-26, 1942. The Battle for Henderson Field is widely regarded as being the turning point in the Land war in the Pacific. The 1st Marine Division, supported by the164th Americal Regiment, fought off attacks by the Japanese 17th Army while Naval aviators and support units based on Henderson Field beat back bombing attacks while locating Admiral Nagumo's approaching Carrier Strike Force. Guadalcanal is based on the popular solitaire wargame Pavlov's House (designed by David Thompson) and puts the player in tactical command of the Marine defenders and the operational assets located on Henderson Field.
