About Festung Cherbourg 1944, from BoardGameGeek:
Board wargame Festung Cherbourg 1944 shows struggle for the largest port in Normandy between American and German forces at the end of June of 1944. One player controls three infantry divisions and supporting troops of US Army. The other player commands German fortress Garrison, composed from various units, mostly remnants of coastal defense divisions.
The American player has at his disposal enormous aerial and artillery support. He must use them effectively, because time is crucial. During each game turn the American forces must move closer to victory locations and finally capture them.
Task for German player is easy. At least in theory. Cherbourg is encompassed by belt of fortifications of various quality. German manning crews can leave their positions, but which unit is available to maneuver is decided by random factor. Similarly, some German defenders can surrender, again decided by random factor.
Game rules cover in simply manner many historical events such as fanatic troops, hidden fortress commander General von Schlieben, gun duel between Allied navy and German coastal batteries.
Players familiar with Festung Breslau 1945 without any problems begin battle for Cherbourg.
