About Effervescent — from BoardGameGeek:

Deep beneath the rolling waves, players take on the role of a colony of Effervescents - the tiny, shimmering beings who ride ocean bubbles in perfect symbiosis with the majestic wanderers of the sea. By navigating shifting undersea currents, players guide these larger creatures through the deep; in return, the marine animals carry the colonies toward new horizons. The goal is to cultivate pockets of harmony and successfully protect the community from the elements while balancing the expansion of the colony with the ever-changing rhythms of the ocean. Effervescent features an organic, grid-free tile-laying system where players have infinite freedom of placement. On a turn, a player must position a curved sea creature tile so that its tail touches the head of an existing creature on the table. Instead of packing pieces tightly edge-to-edge, this head-to-tail placement method creates spaces between the tiles. Players place their shimmering colony tokens onto the board by matching their tile placements to a row of three ever-evolving Drift cards. When tiles successfully surround a pocket of open water, an enclosure is formed. Anyone with tokens inside the sealed enclosure scores points based on shared communal Harmony cards. The game shifts dynamically each round as the oldest Drift card falls out of play and a new current condition is revealed. A race to trigger the end of the journey begins as players attempt to empty their habitat pools of fifteen Effervescents. Once the end-game is triggered, players take equal turns before moving to final scoring. Players then reveal a secret, hidden objective card and must remove any of their tokens from the board that fail to meet its criteria. Points are calculated for all surviving Effervescents, and the player who has fostered the happiest, most vibrant undersea sanctuary claims victory. -description from the publisher
