Commands & Colors: Samurai Battles Review | Tactical Warfare in Feudal Japan

Description provided by Tabletop Gaming Guild on YouTube:

In this video, I review Commands & Colors: Samurai Battles, a tactical 2-player wargame designed by Richard Borg and published by GMT Games. Set in feudal Japan, players take on the roles of rival daimyo, commanding armies across historical battles using a card-driven system. I break down the core gameplay mechanics, command card system, combat dice, Honor & Fortune tokens, Dragon cards, and overall strategy, along with my thoughts on replayability, accessibility, and who this game is best suited for. The game features scenario-based battles on a hex map, where positioning and command cards create a “fog of war” that limits your options and forces tactical decision-making . With 40+ scenarios and varied unit types like samurai, ashigaru, and cavalry, the game offers strong replayability and historical flavor . If you enjoy historical wargames, 2-player strategy games, or the Commands & Colors system, this review will help you decide if Samurai Battles deserves a place in your collection. 👍 Like the video, 🔔 subscribe for more board game reviews, wargames, and tabletop content, and comment if you’d like a how-to-play, playthrough, or expansion coverage next!
