In this video, I review Castle Combo, the tableau-building card game designed by Grégory Grard and Mathieu Roussel and published by Catch Up Games and Pandasaurus Games. In Castle Combo, players recruit characters from both the Village and the Castle to construct a personal 3×3 tableau. Each character provides unique abilities, immediate effects, or end-game scoring opportunities, creating a puzzle centered around card synergy, resource management, and careful placement decisions. Gameplay revolves around managing two key resources: Gold, used to recruit characters, and Keys, which allow players to manipulate the Messenger and determine which market of cards is available for drafting. Every turn presents multiple decisions involving timing, positioning, resource allocation, and planning for future combinations. Each game consists of players drafting only nine cards, making every selection meaningful. Characters feature a variety of scoring conditions based on neighboring cards, card types, resources, positions within the tableau, and special effects, creating a highly interactive puzzle despite the game's short playtime. Castle Combo supports 2–5 players, is recommended for ages 10 and up, and typically plays in 10–25 minutes. Despite its compact size and straightforward rules, the game offers a significant amount of strategic depth and replayability through its varied card combinations and tactical decisions.
