Card-Driven Warfare in the Mediterranean. QMG: South Front Review

Description provided by Storm of Steel Wargaming on YouTube:

Join me at the tabletop as we dive into Quartermaster General: South Front, the second instalment in the “Front” series by designer Ian Brody and Ares Games. This fast-paced, two-player strategy game brings the Mediterranean theatre of World War II to life—from the deserts of North Africa and campaigns in the Balkans to the Allied landings in Sicily and the push into Italy. Quick Setup & Learn: From box to battle in just minutes—perfect for casual gamers and seasoned veterans alike. Theme & Scope: Command the Axis (Germany, Italy, and allies) or the Allies (UK, USA, and Free France) across 16 seasonal rounds spanning Summer 1940 to Spring 1944. Earn Victory Points during four key scoring phases, or secure an early win by gaining a 10-point lead. Mechanics & Strategy: Each player builds their strategy using a unique deck of cards (equipment, manpower, tactics), managing hand, supply, and naval power to dominate the Mediterranean. What Makes South Front Stand Out: A balanced mix of land, air, and—most notably—naval conflict, all streamlined within a consistent ruleset that’s approachable for those familiar with East Front. Components & Presentation: The box comes with a richly illustrated game board, 72 functional cards, wooden counters, markers, player aids, and everything else needed for a complete experience. Final Verdict: Is South Front a must-play for war-game fans or a great entry point for strategy newcomers? I’ll break it down and help you decide.
