Watch “Apex Legends: The Board Game Is a Disaster… and I Love It,” a board game review for Apex Legends: The Board Game from Gaming Caravan on BoardGameVideo.
Description provided by Gaming Caravan on YouTube:
Apex Legends: The Board Game is one of the most frustrating board games I’ve learned in a long time… and somehow, it might also be one of my favorite games ever.
In this review, I’m talking about the deluxe/all-in version of Apex Legends: The Board Game, including the rulebook, insert, terrain, setup, looting, shooting system, Battle Royale mode, team composition, and how well it captures the feel of the video game on the tabletop.
This is not a clean, easy, beginner-friendly board game. The rulebook is rough, the insert is a nightmare, the terrain is annoying to assemble, and the whole thing can be a lot to manage. But once the game actually gets going, the positioning, gunplay, loot system, elevation, recoil, grenades, and character abilities create one of the most exciting skirmish board game experiences I’ve played.
Is Apex Legends: The Board Game worth it? Is it only for Apex fans? Is it better for war gamers? And how on earth did a game with this many problems end up near the top of my all-time ranking?
