On each map you will need to rely on your companions to help you cross the varied terrain to visit stunning monuments, amazing sights and remote villages. At the time of our review, A Wayfarer's Tale offers four maps ranging from a simple tour of the towns to an epic journey across two islands riddled with monsters' lairs. Each map and player board is beautifully illustrated and easy to follow, with low-ink versions available. At the beginning, your decisions are easy as most of your companions can help you cross two different terrains, but as they tire you must plan your route with greater care. As you travel, your companions may lead you to treasure or help you fight off a monster, the value or danger of which is determined by the roll you used to get there. With careful planning, and a bit of luck, you will roll high to reach treasure, low to pass monsters and be the first to tour every town on the map. As a roll and write, the game is quick to play with all players taking simultaneous turns choosing from the same three dice (four if you are the active player). The print and play design makes it quick to deliver and easy on the pocket as you can create as few sets as you need and even laminate or otherwise cover them so they are reusable with dry erase markers.
