Secret Ritual is a crime-investigation game with hidden roles, where players act as Detectives trying to solve a mysterious murder. A set of clue cards is laid out in three categories - Reason, Place, and Means - but only one clue in each category is actually true. One player takes the role of the Ghost, the silent spirit of the victim. The Ghost knows the true clues and can communicate with the Detectives only through a mystical letter box. Each round, players secretly send clue cards to the Ghost. The Ghost examines them and reveals only those cards that are associatively linked to the true clues; all other cards are placed face down into the Vanished pile. The Ghost gives no indication of which category a revealed hint belongs to, or why it was chosen. By discussing the revealed hints and the cards that vanished, players must deduce the three true clues within a limited number of rounds. In competitive games, one or more players may secretly be the Murderer and Accomplices, who know the true clues from the start and actively try to mislead the investigation through bluffing and misinformation. The game can be played in cooperative mode (2+ players), where all players work together to identify all three true clues, or in competitive mode (4+ players), where the Detectives and the Ghost face off against the hidden Murderer team. The Detectives win by correctly identifying all three true clues, or two true clues and the Murderer.
