Terra Incognita

Terra Incognita

2026·Ilya Kurbatov, Tatiana Kurbatova

2 - 4 players
45 - 90 min
Medium weight: Teach it in one sitting

From BoardGameGeek

Terra Incognita is a family-friendly pirate adventure strategy game in which players explore a mysterious modular island, flip tiles to reveal surprises, collect treasure, and race their loot back to their ships while competing against rival crews. Each game creates a new island layout, offering strong replayability through varied tile arrangements. On a player's turn, they may activate one or more of their pirates, allowing flexible planning and coordinated movement across the island. Players spend movement to travel across connected tiles, balancing exploration, positioning, and tactical interaction. Moving onto an unexplored tile flips it, revealing treasure, hazards, special locations, or event effects that introduce unexpected twists to the island. These events are part of the core game and help create a dynamic and unpredictable exploration experience. Pirates can pick up treasure as they move, attack opponents on adjacent tiles, or interact with special tile effects. In advanced modes, players may also gain access to unique pirate ability cards, adding asymmetry and new strategic options. Players continue exploring, gathering treasure, and interfering with rival crews as the island is gradually revealed. The game ends when all treasure on the island has been discovered and delivered to the ships. The winner is the player or team with the highest total treasure value. Coins, treasure chest, and treasure sack contribute to the final score, rewarding both efficient exploration and smart tactical decisions. Terra Incognita offers a light-to-medium strategic experience built around discovery, movement choices, risk–reward decisions, and a competitive race for treasure across a richly varied island map. - description from the designer
