Persian Wars is a card-driven light wargame depicting the Greco-Persian conflict from 494 to 466 B.C. From 494 to 480 BC, the Persian Empire conquered Asia Minor and unleashed an invasion in Thrace and the rest of the Greek peninsula. The Persian onslaught led to the formation of an alliance between the Greek city-states, which culminated in the mounting of a counter attack, from 480 to 466 BC driving the Persians back into Asia. The game has two basic scenarios, namely the Persian Invasion, and the Greek counter-attack. Persian Invasion: The Persians control three generals, Xerxes, Mardonius and Artemisia, while the Greeks control Leonidas and Themistocles. The Persians’ objective is to conquer as many cities as they can from their secret Objective card while the Greeks try to prevent them from doing so, in 7 game rounds. Greek counter-attack: The Greeks mount a counterattack with three generals, Cimon, Xanthippus and Pausanias. Their objective is to liberate as many cities as they can from their secret Objective card. Likewise, the Persians control two generals, Artabazos and Tissaphernes, trying to stop the Greeks, in 7 game rounds. Persian Wars (long- game scenario): For players who wish to reenact the full Persian Wars experience, there is also the long-game scenario, where players play both scenarios in succession 14 game rounds. —description from the publisher
