It's Been Emotional is a hand-management card game in which players race to collect eight emotion cards in their personal tableau, called their mood, while disrupting the moods of their opponents. The 170-card deck is built around eight emotion families - Joy, Trust, Fear, Surprise, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Anticipation - each identified by a colour banner and carrying its own power: Anger destroys cards in opponents' moods, Sadness suppresses cards, Trust recovers cards from the discard pile, Anticipation searches the draw pile or draws extra cards, and Joy returns cards from the discard pile if destroyed. The emotion cards (80 in total, ten per family) include unique characters and hidden emotions that unlock stronger effects. A turn has four phases: activate the powers of cards already in your mood, draw a card, play a card or draw one more, then discard down to the hand limit of eight. Game-changer cards interrupt the flow of play: Drama cards trigger random events affecting one or more players, Brainfart cards stop play instantly during anyone's turn and can be cancelled by another Brainfart, Pick Me Ups add positive effects to your own mood, and Put Downs sit in an opponent's mood with lasting negative effects. The first player to hold eight emotion cards in their mood wins. An optional Mission variant deals each player a secret objective card that must also be fulfilled to claim victory. -description from the publisher
